FEEDER x ELLEGARDEN: A Fiery Exchange of Mutual Respect — Sparkling Emotions and Surging Energy in Their First Joint Tour
With FEEDER having set the stage on fire, ELLEGARDEN made their return. Hosomi roared, “Let’s go, Tokyo!” as they kicked off their set with “Supernova.” The crowd instantly erupted, singing at the top of their lungs, moshing, and surfing in response to the band’s fiery performance. “Salamander” followed without pause, further intensifying the floor. Songs from their 2022 comeback album “The End of Yesterday,” such as “Cheesecake Factory” and “Mountain Top,” proved themselves as fan-favorite live staples, having matured over the past two years to become indispensable anthems.
Standing before a venue unlike their usual live houses, Hosomi reflected: “What a sight this is.” He expressed gratitude to the audience, saying, “We’re touring the world with FEEDER, a band I’ve listened to since I was a kid, and now we’re here, with so many of you… I’m not sure I can express it properly, but thank you for bringing us here.” With that, they launched into “Red Hot,” once again raising the heat.
Hirotaka Takahashi (Dr) delivered a beat that balanced heaviness and fluidity, Yuichi Takada (Ba) added solid low-end foundation, and Shinichi Ubukata (Gt) added a vibrant flourish with his wild guitar playing and powerful backing vocals. Hosomi, as always, poured powerful vocals and heartfelt messages into each song. Given his emergency retinal detachment surgery in November 2024, the band’s current activities are never taken for granted. “Until the day I die, I’ve decided to live with everything I’ve got,” he shared during an emotional MC. That determination was matched by fans’ eagerness to cherish every moment.
Mid-show, Grant joined ELLEGARDEN onstage for a surprise collaboration: FEEDER’s “Seven Days in the Sun.” Hosomi quipped, “When I tried covering it, I realized it shares the same chords as ‘Wannabies.’ I guess I was really influenced without even knowing it!” The performance and the relaxed camaraderie with Grant, Taka, and the others were a moving highlight for the audience.
The setlist blended old and new hits like “Missing,” “Strawberry Margarita,” and “Jitterbug,” all drawing wild cheers from the crowd. “Kinsei (Venus)” brought the main set to a close with Hosomi urging, “Let me hear your loudest voices of the night!”—a request that was met with a thunderous response.
The band returned in FEEDER logo T-shirts for the encore, starting with “Space Sonic.” Smiling, Hosomi said, “It feels like we kicked open the doors to your hearts tonight.” The band then enveloped the Garden Theater in emotion with “Niji (Rainbow).” When it turned out that the photographer needed time to get on stage for a commemorative photo with FEEDER, ELLEGARDEN delivered a surprise performance of “Pizza Man” to fill the gap, much to the audience’s delight.
“I had a freaking blast! The drinks are gonna taste great tonight!” Hosomi shouted, unable to hide his joy, as ELLEGARDEN posed with FEEDER for a commemorative photo. With the Japan leg of the “FEEDER x ELLEGARDEN Sonic Bridges Tour 2025” a resounding success, the bands embarked on their journey overseas.
Though some say rock bands are in decline globally, this tour—spanning Asia and Europe—may offer a spark of revival. How will this miraculous collaboration influence the bands, and how will ELLEGARDEN apply what they gained from this dream tour? This joint venture is sure to become a turning point for both bands, their fans, and the international rock scene alike.
